Four Tips For Traveling With Your Scooter By Air

We all deserve to get out, travel, and have fun right? Just because you may have some mobility challenges this does not mean that you have to stay at home! Below, Dynamite Travel Scooters has provided several tips for you to keep in mind when you are taking trips by air/flight:

Consider getting TSA Pre-Check, Clear, and/or Global Entry:

These are different types of programs that will help to expedite your wait in the queue to pass through security. If you are unable to stand or be off of your scooter for a long time this will be a huge advantage for you! We highly recommend signing up for Global Entry (which is used for international travel) as it automatically enrolls you into TSA Pre-Check. Some credit cards provide a credit for you to sign up so check with your cardholder before signing up!

Check the airline policies before you depart:

It is a good idea to check the airline's policies before you depart. You want to check to see what requirements they have for bringing your scooter with you on your flight. Make sure that you are aware of your scooter's dimensions before you fly. You will also definitely need to know what type of battery you have and if it is an acceptable type for you to fly with. You can verify this information by visiting the airline website or calling them before your flight.

Arrive early at the airport:

Depending on the size of your scooter you may have to be dropped off at the check-in area before you park. If you park first make sure that you have enough time to disassemble your scooter if necessary before you make your way to the check-in counter.

Thoroughly ID your scooter before you check it in with the airline:

If you have to check your scooter make sure that you clearly ID it by putting a luggage tag or label on it. You also want to make sure that you take several pictures of your scooter of it's condition before you check it so that if there are any issues with damages you have proof of how it looked before you checked it. Don't forget to take your scooter keys so that they don't get lost!

These are just a few important tips that we think you should follow when traveling by air. Feel free to contact us if you have additional questions and we will be glad to assist you!
